female teacher using sign language with male visitor in classroom

During campus visits this week, I took note of something special about our district: There is an overwhelming sense of community in and out of our classrooms. This characteristic is distinctly EUSD – that we feel part of something bigger, while also making close connections. Thank you to all of our families and employees who support this beautiful community of learners!

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.

Rooms update: Our technology team is working continuously with our school office staff members to ensure that EUSD families get connected with Rooms, the new district-wide classroom communication platform. We are in constant contact with our mobile app developer to correct any bugs, and we are pleased to share that notification alerts in the app are now activated. School office staff members will be available to provide assistance with Rooms at back to school nights, as well as by phone or email during the school day. Be sure to check your email for your invitation to set up your Rooms account. Log in to Rooms in the EUSD app on your mobile device or go to edurooms.com on a computer to log in. This guide for families provides assistance for completing the setup of accounts in Rooms.

Work with EUSD: Mark your calendar for August 23 for a hiring event that will connect job seekers directly with employment opportunities in EUSD. Our Human Resources team will be guiding individuals through the application process for numerous certificated and classified positions, including family liaison, preschool teacher, school clerk, licensed vocational nurse, nutrition assistant, noontime supervisor, paraeducator, custodian, and more. The event is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, at Central Elementary School, 122 W. Fourth Ave. For additional details and to pre-register, visit the event website.

Health update: The County of San Diego has declared a local health emergency to respond to monkeypox. Health authorities are working proactively to control the potential spread of this virus, which causes a rash and flu-like symptoms. While monkeypox is currently uncommon among individuals under age 18, we understand that families may be concerned. Monkeypox spreads between individuals primarily through direct contact with infectious sores, scabs, or body fluids, as well as by respiratory secretions during prolonged, face-to-face contact. The California Department of Public Health says the risk of monkeypox to the public is very low based on the information available. State and local health officials are monitoring transmission levels, and we encourage you to review information provided by CDPH and the County of San Diego. We will provide updates as necessary.

Early childhood education: EUSD offers comprehensive early education programs:

  • EUSD State Preschool, a half-day, subsidized program, is an integral part of the district’s efforts to ensure that every child in our community has the foundational skills to be successful in school. With the expansion of Transitional Kindergarten, our preschool can accommodate 3-year-olds as well as 4-year-olds. Visit the preschool website to learn more and apply online for the current school year. Preschool is available at Central, Juniper, Glen View, Lincoln, Oak Hill, Pioneer, and Rose elementary schools. Eligibility for the program is based on household income.

  • Transitional Kindergarten is offered at all 17 elementary schools in EUSD, with enrollment ongoing for the current school year. This full-day program is an exciting educational opportunity for children whose birth date is between September 2, 2017, and February 2, 2018. Spaces are available now, with convenient online enrollment through the New Student Registration 2022-2023 portal. In addition, the EUSD Transitional Kindergarten program has space for “TK Youngsters” – children who are 4 years old and whose birth date is between February 3, 2018, and June 2, 2018.
