For some time now, our district vision has been a brief but powerful statement: To actualize the unlimited potential of every learner. However, we felt it was time to expand on this, and I am excited to share this updated vision with you:

The Escondido Union School District will actualize the unlimited potential of every learner. We will be empowered, encouraged, engaged, and committed. In EUSD, equity is achieved when all students receive the resources and support they need to be successful.

We are excited to launch the 2022-23 school year with this incredible vision at the forefront of everything we do for our EUSD children and their families!

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 9. For all school site start and dismissal times, check our districtwide bell schedule here. Please allow for extra travel time, as the first week of school traffic is always heavy.

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.

Absence notifications: In order to create a more uniform notification process for attendance, families now will receive automated phone calls at 10:15 a.m. on days when their student is absent from school.

COVID safety: The Escondido Union School District continues to prioritize the health and safety of our students and employees as we continue full-time, on-campus learning this year. EUSD’s COVID-19 protocols remain largely unchanged from last year.  Our district COVID-19 guidelines for 2022-23 school year can be found on our website. EUSD continues to follow the California Department of Public Health and the San Diego County Office of Education’s COVID-19 K-12 Guidance for Schools. Masks are not required; however, all students, employees, and visitors are encouraged to wear a mask while indoors at all EUSD sites.

COVID tests: At-home COVID test kits are available at all EUSD school health offices for any student who has symptoms of COVID or who has been in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID.

TK Youngsters: EUSD is proud to offer full-day Transitional Kindergarten at all elementary schools.  A “TK Youngster” is a child who is 4 years old and whose birth date is between February 3, 2018, and June 2, 2018. We are in the process of identifying schools that have space for TK Youngsters. Please note that the priority for enrollment in traditional Transitional Kindergarten is for children whose birth date is between September 2, 2017, and February 2, 2018.

School choice: Because of high demand and the uncertainty of available spaces, we have been unable to accommodate many requests for School Choice Intradistrict Transfer. By law, School Choice Intradistrict Transfers are approved on a space-available basis at the school of desired attendance. The district determines each school’s capacity based on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act guidelines, programmatic considerations, and each site’s facilities and staffing. Submitting an application for School Choice does not guarantee enrollment in the desired school. We will continue to place students off of the waitlists as spaces become available until August 19, 2022.

School supplies: The district provides all school supplies that are needed for every student to succeed in school. This includes a district-issued iPad for all students in all grade levels. You may receive a “wish list” for your child’s classroom; however, these are simply requests and not mandatory for you to provide. At home, it’s recommended that children have access to a quiet place to do homework. Should you need any supplies for home – such as pencils, a notebook, or crayons – please let your child’s teacher know or contact your school’s family liaison or school social worker.

Class lists: Class lists will be made available via Rooms, which is the classroom communication system accessed through the district’s new app. Download the free app for Android in Google Play or for iPhone in the Apple App Store. All families should have received an email with an invitation to join Rooms. Follow the steps in the invitation to create your account. Once you have set up your Rooms account through the invitation, you can log in to Rooms in the EUSD app on your mobile device or go to edurooms.com on a computer to log in. For students enrolled in elementary schools, Quantum Academy, and Limitless Learning Academy, classroom and teacher assignments will be available in Rooms on the evening of August 5. For students enrolled in middle schools, class assignments will be available in Rooms on the evening of August 8.
