June 14, 2022
Dear EUSD Families,
Thank you for all of your collaboration and support in making the 2021-2022 school year a great success! Our weekly family communication will take a summer break, but we will share important information as needed. Families of students in EUSD summer school will receive program-related updates by email.
We are excited to share some new initiatives to look forward to in the 2022-2023 school year, as well as this week’s updates and reminders. Wishing you a great summer!
Summer nutrition: The district’s free summer nutrition program is available weekdays from June 27 to July 22 – except July 4 – at seven school sites: Bear Valley and Mission middle schools; and Farr Avenue, Juniper, Oak Hill, Pioneer, and Rock Springs elementary schools. Breakfast is from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., and lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The summer meals are available for all children ages 18 and younger. All meals must be consumed on site.
Expanded learning: EUSD is excited to share the district wide implementation of the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Complementing our existing after-school programs, the expanded learning programs will provide engaging learning experiences by focusing on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of students before and after school, and during seasonal breaks. These programs will be offered to students at all of our in-person schools, with enrollment priority given to children who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, who are experiencing homelessness, or who are in foster care. Every student enrolled in a school with an ELOP program is eligible to participate at no cost, subject to capacity.
EUSD currently offers After School Education and Safety, or ASES, the YMCA’s Legends, and the Boys and Girls Club’s X-Track programs at 16 schools. These before- and after-school programs are enrolling students for the 2022-2023 school year. We are also enrolling students in after-school programs at an additional five elementary schools as well. All of these expanded learning programs are growing. We are proud to be working to provide all students who want to participate in an after-school program the chance to do so! If your family is interested in getting additional information about expanded learning programs at your school, please complete this interest form.
COVID assistance: Neighborhood Healthcare will host a vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 25, at Mission Middle School. Neighborhood’s community vaccination clinics will continue on the first and third Sundays beginning July 16 at 460 North Elm Street. The clinics are free and open to students age 5 and older, their families, and any other interested community members.
New website, app: We are excited to introduce new EUSD district and school websites and an EUSD mobile app, tentatively scheduled to go live Friday, June 17. The websites will have a new look and feel, but with all of the same content that you’re familiar with and more. The new mobile app will give families an easy way to stay up-to-date on news and events from schools and the district. The EUSD mobile app is available for download on your mobile phone at the Apple App store for iPhones or the Google Play store for Android phones. Our summer school families will be the first to use this new tool. Look for an increased presence from every school site social media channels as well, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
Student enrollment: Registration for returning students for the 2022-2023 school year will take place in July. Registration for students new to the district is open now. The 2022-2023 school year starts on Tuesday, August 9.
Sincerely,
Luis Rankins-Ibarra
