On behalf of the Board of Education and Cabinet, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year! We are excited to introduce our new theme, "Every Day Counts," which emphasizes the importance of consistent school attendance. Each day your child is in school, they build on their learning, develop strong habits, and strengthen their connection to the school community. By minimizing absences, we can ensure that every student has the best opportunity to succeed. Let's work together to make every day count for your child's education starting on Tuesday, August 20, as we welcome your students back to school for the First Day of School!

We are honored to have your children as part of our school community, and we are thrilled to begin another year of learning and growth on August 20. You may check your school’s bell schedule here. Our school offices are now open to the public, with our friendly staff available to answer any questions.

Student Registration: If you have not yet registered your returning student, now is the time to complete the required registration of all students returning to EUSD for the 2024-25 school year. You can complete your child's registration by clicking the following link: Returning Student Registration. The Returning Student Registration takes just minutes to complete online. Timely submission of registration for the 2024-2025 school year will help ensure proper placement of your child, prevent delays in receiving your child's class schedule, assist staff in determining your child’s eligibility for assistance program benefits, and confirm that necessary emergency contact information is up to date. Returning families have received a letter by U.S. Mail with instructions for accessing the parent portal. It is essential that all returning students register through the online process in order to update essential information.

If you have a child who is new to EUSD, please visit our Enrollment and Registration webpage to access the appropriate links and review important information for this process for students incoming in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. In addition:

  • To find your neighborhood school of residence, use our online school locator tool.

  • For the 2024-2025 school year, children are eligible for full-day Transitional Kindergarten if their date of birth is between September 2, 2019, and September 1, 2020. For full-day Kindergarten, eligible students must be age 5 on or before September 1, 2024.

Preschool applications: EUSD State Preschool is still accepting online applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Visit the preschool website to access the application beginning Wednesday. Applications will be accepted for children who will be age 3 by August 20, 2024. If your child will turn 3 during the 2024-2025 school year, you can apply on or after their birthday. Preschool classes are available at seven EUSD elementary schools: Central, Juniper, Glen View, Lincoln, Oak Hill, Pioneer, and Rose. EUSD Preschool is offered through the California State Preschool Program and licensed through the California Department of Social Services. Eligibility for the program is based on household income; however, there are additional opportunities for families who may qualify to participate in the EUSD State Preschool Program based on residing within the boundaries of one of our sites.  In addition, students with IEPs also qualify for the State Preschool program. To learn more, visit the EUSD Preschool website or email preschoolenrollment@eusd.org. View the application here. For Special Education Preschool options, including our responsive interventions and inclusive programs, contact the team at spedsupport@eusd.org

Stay connected: The EUSD mobile app is your one-stop-shop for all school news and events. Getting connected with the app is essential to stay informed about your child's classroom activities, campus events, and districtwide news. In addition, the classroom communication tool Rooms is available inside the EUSD app. In Rooms, parents and guardians can message teachers, and students can ask their teacher school-related questions in a monitored, safe place. Rooms is the standard classroom messaging app across the district. The free “EUSD Escondido CA” app is available for download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. For families new to EUSD, you will receive an invitation by email to join Rooms. Those emails are expected to go out early this week. To get started, simply create an account using the invitation link in the email. If you are a returning family and already have a Rooms account there is no action necessary on your part. For further details and instructions on staying connected, please visit our Stay Connected in EUSD webpage.

Campus security: EUSD’s approach to securing our campuses has evolved over the years, adapting to the changing times. The district has made numerous upgrades based on guidance and best practices from the FBI, state and local law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Secret Service, and, perhaps most importantly, from our own community. Some of these changes in our approach to school security will be noticeable, while others are behind the scenes. For a complete update on security, please visit our EUSD Security Initiatives webpage.

School supplies: The district provides all school supplies that are needed for every student to succeed in school. This includes a district-issued iPad for all students in all grade levels. You may receive a “wish list” for your child’s classroom; however, these are simply requests and not mandatory for you to provide. At home, it’s recommended that children have access to a quiet place to do homework. Should you need any supplies for home – such as pencils, a notebook, or crayons – please let your child’s teacher know or contact your school’s family liaison or school social worker.

Have a wonderful First Day of School!

– Luis Rankins-Ibarra, Superintendent of Schools
