Nutrition and Fitness

Reinforcing proper nutrition lifestyles for adolescents is not just about creating lifelong eating habits, it's about laying the foundation for a student's overall well-being. It's about helping students grow and learn to their fullest potential and then go on to lead a long, healthy life. The winning recipe for a healthy lifestyle includes a combination of both good nutrition and physical activity. The body needs a variety of nutrient-rich foods to grow and prevent illness, along with moving and exercising the body. Physically fit students sleep better and handle the physical and emotional challenges encountered as they develop into adulthood.

Eat enough Energy, Protein, Vitamins, Minerals and Fiber

  • Choose lots of brightly colored fruits and vegetables.

  • Ensure you're getting plenty of calcium. This essential nutrient plays a key role in building and maintaining healthy bones, a crucial aspect of your athletic performance. Understand the importance of iron. This vital nutrient is responsible for carrying oxygen throughout your body, ensuring your muscles and organs have the energy they need to perform at their best. Iron-rich foods include red meat, chicken, tuna, salmon, eggs, dried fruits, leafy green vegetables, and whole grains. Protein for strength. Protein can help build muscles, along with regular training and exercise. Protein-rich foods include fish, lean red meat and poultry, dairy products, nuts, soy products, and peanut butter.

  • Smart Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates or "carbs" provide energy for the body and are an essential fuel source for young athletes. However, there is no need for "carb loading" before a big game. Choose carbohydrates in whole-grain foods that are less processed and high in fiber, like pasta, brown rice, whole-grain bread, and cereal. Fiber also helps lower cholesterol and may help prevent diabetes and heart disease.

Water is not just a drink, it's a vital component of an athlete's success. Staying properly hydrated is crucial, as it helps maintain your body's temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. Physical conditioning and expert coaching are important, but without the right foods, they're not enough to push you to be your best. Good nutrition is not just a supplement, it's a crucial part of your training program to succeed.

Sports Nutrition

School-aged athletes' path to peak performance starts with fueling their bodies with good nutrition. Whether it's a game of football, a swim meet, or a morning jog, the proper diet is the key to unlocking your potential. Just like the rules of any sport, good nutrition is a fundamental aspect, and it's what sets the stage for your ability to compete at your best.

Choosing the right foods isn't just about staying physically fit; it's about reaching peak performance. Your body is a complex machine, and by providing it with the right fuel, you can fine-tune its systems to help you achieve your highest potential and maintain a winning edge.

It's not just about eating; it's about eating a variety of healthy foods and staying hydrated. As student-athletes, your bodies are still growing, and it's crucial to nourish that growth and fuel the demands of strenuous exercise and organized sports. Try to include a source of protein, a serving of whole grains, and a variety of fruits and vegetables in each meal. And don't forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

That translates into eating a variety of foods every day. And remember, fluids, especially water, are not to be overlooked. They are crucial to the winning combination. Dehydration can stop even the finest athlete from playing their best game. So, make sure your diet is diverse and your hydration levels are always up.
