Dear Hidden Valley Families,
I am pleased to be able to share an exciting development with you as we prepare for the start of the 2024-2025 school year at Hidden Valley Middle School. In collaboration with the non-profit organizations Getting Smart and Learner-Centered Collaborative, Hidden Valley is launching a microschool on our campus. A microschool is a cohort of students and teachers dedicated to developing innovative teaching and learning practices that can be shared with the entire school community.
Drawing inspiration from EUSD’s recent efforts to build and strengthen our learner-centered practices, our microschool will offer unique opportunities for personalized, competency-based, authentic, and equitable learning. This cohort of approximately 150 students and 6 teachers from grade 7 will be using the same classrooms and facilities as all of our students and teachers; but what sets Hidden Valley Microschool apart is its role as a laboratory for innovation. Our microschool leadership team has carefully selected several pioneering initiatives aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and supporting student success. From student portfolios to project-based learning and opportunities for interdisciplinary lessons, we’ll be engaging in teaching and learning shifts that pave the way for advancements that will positively impact all students in HVMS and the district.
As a pioneering cohort within our existing school community, the Hidden Valley Microschool will provide personalized learning experiences tailored to the individual needs and interests of each student. Through these efforts, we’re adding to our ability to create a dynamic and engaging environment for ALL Hidden Valley students, where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
