EPIC News!
Week 4 - August 28th, 2022
Greetings Conway Families,
It was quite a week for our Conway Crew. First and foremost, the safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority. This week we experienced a situation that called for us to implement our Secure Campus. Our students and staff did remarkably well. This is because our staff is trained and ready at a moment's notice to implement any of our safety procedures. In addition we facilitate monthly drills with our students to practice in different situations and times of day. Please see our calendar for these drills.
On Thursday we welcomed our Superintendent, Dr. Ibarra and Assistant Superintendent Andy McGuire to campus. They visited many classrooms, dropped in on our ASB student leaders’ meeting, and were fascinated by our kindergarten students in STEM and art engaged in design thinking. Mr. McGuire even caught a 5th grade basketball game while on campus.
Dr. Ibarra was the first to congratulate Conway on our recent accomplishment. Our school has earned the EL Education Credential for excellent, equitable outcomes across EL’s multiple dimensions of student achievement. Conway is a project-based speciality school that implemented the Expeditionary Learning model in 2016. EL Education, formerly known as Expeditionary Learning, is a nationally recognized whole school model where students take their learning deeper with hands-on, interdisciplinary experiences in the classroom and in the community. This has been a collaborative effort and could not have been achieved without the dedication and commitment of our staff crew. We have been moving at remarkable levels and are pretty darn proud. Here is the official release of the credentialed schools in this year EL Education Press Release .
Stay tuned for our next edition of the Conway Community Chronicle, August 2022 that keeps families informed of upcoming events. And make sure to read our Weekly Communication.
Together we are creating an EPIC school. We are grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion.
In crew,
Principal Meglich

Reading
Fostering the joy of reading!
Learning to read is a foundational milestone in a child’s life. Our classrooms come alive as teachers develop these foundational skills. Each year new research continues to show its compelling importance. Reading increases your vocabulary and writing skills, deepens your understanding and insight, expands your imagination, raises your happiness, improves your health, and even boosts your memory. So in a nutshell, reading is pretty awesome and sets you up for success.
Here are a few tips for families to help develop lifelong reading habits and foster kids’ love of reading at home from SD Family.
