Every Day Counts in EUSD! – September 22, 2024
As part of the EUSD Framework for the Future, we continue to work towards offering students learning experiences that are personalized, authentic, competency-based, and inclusive and equitable. As we shift towards a learner-centered model that promises to be filled with innovative programming for our students, EUSD has identified five “Big Moves” that we will accomplish over the next few years. Last year, we began with the inaugural cohort of School Redesign campuses – Limitless Learning Academy, L.R. Green Elementary, Mission Middle School, and North Broadway Elementary. Additionally, Hidden Valley was also part of the school redesign process using a micro-school approach where a team of teachers are implementing specific innovative practices with the intent to learn, refine, and expand. We are excited to see all of these five schools implement several of their Redesign concepts this school year.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce the following schools who will begin their journey as part of the next School Redesign Cohort 2: Rock Springs Elementary, Rose Elementary, Felicita Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Bear Valley Middle School, and Central Elementary who will apply the micro-school approach. We look forward to sharing our progress with you!
Here are this week’s updates and reminders.
Attendance - Every Day Counts!: As EUSD focuses on attendance for the 2024-25 school year, we want to celebrate the successes we have had as a district with student attendance. So far this year, we are averaging 94.7 percent. This is one percentage point higher than last year and well on our way to our goal of reaching 95 percent. A huge thank you to everyone for their efforts in making Every Day Count!
Kids Heart Challenge from the American Heart Association!: Students who participate in the Heart Association’s in-school program, Kids Heart Challenge™ and American Heart challenge™, receive free Hands-Only CPR instruction so they can be confident and capable to respond in a cardiac emergency. The NFL’s support includes the production of an introduction video by Damar Hamlin, Buffalo Bills safety and cardiac arrest survivor. In the video, which appears prior to the Kids Heart Challenge Hands-Only CPR online learning module, Hamlin shares that CPR saved his life and encourages kids to learn the lifesaving skill. Each elementary school student who completed the online learning module earned an entry for two tickets to Super Bowl LIX. Additionally, Kids Heart Challenge participating schools received entries to win a $10,000 fitness equipment makeover for student participation.
“The exciting incentives provided by the NFL encouraged more students to engage with and complete the Hands-Only CPR module – expanding the knowledge base to their family members of how to respond in a cardiac emergency,” said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association. “Together with the NFL, we were able to impact more schools and teach more students in the lifesaving skill of CPR.”
Our own Mason Balderas from Felicita Elementary School successfully completed the entire Kid’s Heart Challenge, which entered him in the contest for Superbowl Tickets, and HE WON! Here is a video of the moment he was told this exciting news (youtube).
