This announcement serves as a public notice that at 7 p.m. October 14, 2021, the Escondido Union School District Board of Education at its regularly scheduled meeting will conduct a public hearing to discuss a request by the California Department of Education to consider the sufficiency of the district’s textbooks and instructional materials for the 2021-2022 fiscal year, consistent with the state-adopted frameworks and the Williams Settlement Legislation.

The board is seeking input from parents and members of the community and welcomes comments and interest. The hearing will be open to the public via teleconference and in person at the Carilyn Gilbert Education Center, 2310 Aldergrove Avenue.

Individuals who wish to address the board remotely must use the link for public comments, which will be available between 6 p.m. October 13 and noon October 14, 2021. If indicated, public comments submitted online will be read aloud during the allotted time on the agenda. Individuals who wish to address the board in person should complete a “Request to be Heard” card located on the table at the entrance to the boardroom. Before the start of the meeting, place the completed card at the recording secretary’s workstation. Regular meetings are recorded and live-streamed via Zoom.

Board policy limits oral presentation to three minutes or less. An individual speaker may not cede their time to another speaker. Written comments must not exceed 450 words in length. The board shall limit the total time for public input on each item to 20 minutes. The Board of Education is prohibited by law from taking action on matters discussed that are not on the agenda.
