Health Resources:Whooping Cough Immunization Requirement

Whooping cough (pertussis) has become increasingly widespread in California during the last several years. To help protect your child and others from this serious disease, a new California law now requires students to be vaccinated against whooping cough.

By state law,  ALL students beginning seventh-grade in the 2012-2013 school year will need to bring proof of having received the whooping cough booster shot to the school office. Incoming seventh-grade students who do not show proof of receiving the booster shot will not be allowed to start the 2012-2013 school year.

We want to make sure your child starts school on time. We encourage you to:

  1. Get your child’s whooping cough booster shot now.
  2. Bring the shot record to your child’s current school. If your child has already received the shot, please make sure the school has a copy of the record.

Children who are uninsured or underinsured may qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program. To find a provider near you, call 1-877-243-8832 or visit VFC Provider Locations website.
